Fort
Lauderdale, known as the "Venice of America" due to its expansive and intricate
canal system, is a city in Broward County, Florida, USA. The city is also
sometimes referred to as "Fort Liquordale" because of its, many bars, nightclubs,
strip clubs, and overall party atmosphere.
Las
Olas is the most popular street in downtown Fort Lauderdale. It is home
to many of the bars and nightclubs, as well as trendy shops, chic boutiques,
art galleries, restaurants and hotels. The pricing of many of the items
in these places range from being moderate to extremely expensive. Many
of the housing areas are expensive houses, condominums, mansions, and villas
that are located on Las Olas' isles or islands, and many of the residents
own yachts. It was first constructed in 1917, when Las Olas was just a
dirt road that took people to the Fort Lauderdale Beach. The name "Las
Olas" means "The Waves" in Spanish.
The
main gay area is centered around the Wilton Manors/Wilton Drive area of
the city.
